Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and Italian seasoning (if using). Stir to combine.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the activated yeast mixture along with the olive oil.
- Knead the Dough:
- Mix everything together until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a damp towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven during preheating.
- Shape the Dough:
- After the first rise, punch down the dough to remove excess air. Divide the dough in half for two medium-sized pizzas or leave it whole for one large pizza. Roll or stretch the dough out to your desired thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Prepare the Pizza:
- Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Add your favorite toppings.
- Bake the Pizza:
- Slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
- Serve:
- Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
