The Best Pizza Dough

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
  • In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  1. Mix Dry Ingredients:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and Italian seasoning (if using). Stir to combine.
  1. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
  • Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the activated yeast mixture along with the olive oil.
  1. Knead the Dough:
  • Mix everything together until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.
  1. First Rise:
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a damp towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  1. Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven during preheating.
  1. Shape the Dough:
  • After the first rise, punch down the dough to remove excess air. Divide the dough in half for two medium-sized pizzas or leave it whole for one large pizza. Roll or stretch the dough out to your desired thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  1. Prepare the Pizza:
  • Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Add your favorite toppings.
  1. Bake the Pizza:
  • Slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  1. Serve:
  • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
